Coastal andhra house (in mud) In 1996, a circular house in mud was constructed within the campus of an NGO in Visakhapatnam with the help of the artisans from the nearby village. The traditional house had been built with a thatch roof supported on palmyra rafters that rested on a central pole. Here, the concept of a truss was introduced. It was possible to now use a cross-section of rafters of smaller dimension, therefore lesser wood. A smaller cross-section also meant we could use a different, less expensive wood. |
